P is for Pacific War: A to Z Blogging Challenge

Fredericksburg, Texas:
My head is about to pop from all the particulars we learned about the Pacific War on our second day at the National Museum of the Pacific War.

We picked up where we left off yesterday, heading into conflict in the Mariana and Solomon Islands. The U.S. was fighting the Japanese. As a strategic maneuver, Admiral Nimitz chose to "island hop" northward through the Pacific rather than conquering each island the Japanese were in control of.

U.S. forces, along with the Allies (mostly Australia) won skirmishes as they progressed toward Japan, securing Iwo Jima and Okinawa which ultimately allowed us to win the war by bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki with "Fat Man" and "Little Boy."

Neither of us wore a watch today so we had no idea how long it took to go through the remaining 2/3rds of the museum. When we emerged and checked the time, it had been four hours since we began. No wonder my tummy was rumbling. Total time we immersed ourselves in the Pacific War over two days was six hours!

For the rest of the afternoon, Bob "kidnapped" me, meaning he didn't tell me where were going. Just outside Fredericksburg is Wildseed Farms, the nation's largest working wildflower farm. What a colorful place.

After we ate lunch in the Brew Bonnet (nothing fancy--simple sandwiches finished off with a yummy peach ice cream), we wandered the grounds. Bob is such a great husband for taking me to see this profusion of color! Don't you agree? He knows I'm a nature girl at heart.

Can you find the giraffe?

Believe it or not, we went back to the 5er and relaxed for the rest of the afternoon. So nice. Good for the soul.
