Texas Travelin' -- Tues. & Wed., Apr. 30 & May 1

Ingram to Fort Worth, Texas and back:
Monday, April 30, we headed north in my Escape to Fort Worth on Texas Hwy 16 to US 377. On the way, we passed through Dublin, Texas, the oldest bottler of the Dr. Pepper brand. Dr. Pepper was first introduced in Waco, Texas, 90 minutes to the east of Dublin. Driving time for our trip to Ft. Worth was five hours.
Beautiful wildflowers by the side of the highway.

In Ft. Worth, our motel clerk recommended Riscky's Bar-B-Q for dinner. The chicken and French fries were our favorites. We do not recommend the brisket sandwich, the coleslaw or the potato salad. The potato salad tasted like it was made with fake mashed potatoes. Yucky!

This was in Riscky's...we have never seen anything like it in any museum we've been in.

We spent the night in a Super 8 Motel near the place where we would take our test to become security officers for gate guarding.

Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. we went to our testing location, read our security guard booklets, took the tests, passed, filled out employment paperwork and got fingerprinted.

Around noon we ate lunch at The American Deli, then headed south to meet the owner of the security service company we'll be working for. He gave us company logo shirts and a logo safety vest.

We were supposed to start work Friday, but have been asked if we could start Thursday instead. We told them we could.

Driving back to Ingram today, we took US 281 for a change of scenery. We liked Hico which looks like one of those Old West towns you see in movies. There is a Billy the Kid Museum in Hico.

We stopped for dinner in the town of Marble Falls. Both of us liked the feel of the town. We think it's a resort town in an area of lakes. Didn't have time today to explore.

During our travels today, we saw goats, deer, camels, sheep, bison, Texas longhorns and blackbuck antelope. We arrived back at the 5er after 8:00 p.m.

My car was covered in dead bugs after two days on the road. Tonight Bob took my car out, filled it with gas, washed and vacuumed it. What a sweetheart!

Tomorrow morning, we will drive along the North Fork of the Guadalupe River. Bob has not seen it yet. It is so beautiful, I can't wait to show him.

We will drive south toward Cotulla, Texas tomorrow afternoon and find a place to camp for the night. Thursday a.m., we'll start working our gate.
